Parquet sanding in Zurich.

Traffic paths, scratches, lacquer that has turned grey: often it is enough to sand the parquet and oil or seal it again. We replace individual damaged strips or boards. And where sanding is no longer possible, we lay new parquet — in Zurich and across Switzerland.

Three firm commitments.

Check first, then sand

Whether sanding is still possible depends on the wear layer (Nutzschicht). Our chief engineer checks the build-up, condition and damage on site and tells you whether sanding is enough, whether individual strips need replacing or whether new parquet is the better solution.

Price after the site visit, item by item

We do not give a price for sanding from plans alone. Within 48 hours of the site visit you receive the fixed-price quote: sanding passes, joints, finish and repairs as separate items, materials separate.

Sanding or new — from one company

If sanding is no longer enough, we lay new parquet at fixed prices per m². Skirting boards, transitions and painting come from the same company. 5-year warranty from acceptance.

Sanding, oiling or sealing.

Sanding takes off the top layer of wood together with the old lacquer or oil; the parquet then gets a new finish. Oiled floors look natural and are re-oiled regularly later on; a lacquer seal forms a closed layer on the wood. Which finish suits depends on use, room and previous treatment — we discuss that at the site visit. How often a floor can be sanded is determined by the wear layer: solid parquet is wood all the way through, multi-layer parquet has a wear layer on a backing, and veneer floors allow little or no sanding. Sanding does not fix deep dents, water damage, loose elements or a worn-through wear layer. We replace individual damaged strips or boards; if the floor has reached its end, we price new flooring for you. How to tell what is still possible with your floor is explained in our guide Sand or replace parquet?.

What it costs.

For sanding, oiling or sealing we give the price after the site visit. It depends mainly on the area, the condition of the floor, the number of sanding passes, the joints, the finish you want and repairs to individual strips. If the parquet can no longer be sanded, our unit prices for the labour apply, excluding VAT: removing old parquet CHF 25 per m² (excluding disposal), levelling the subfloor up to 3 mm CHF 22 and from 3 to 10 mm CHF 35 per m², new parquet laid floating from CHF 45, fully bonded from CHF 58 (up to CHF 70), mechanically fixed CHF 62 per m², skirting boards CHF 12 to 18 per running metre. Parquet, oil, lacquer and other materials come on top. In Zurich and the surrounding area travel is included. Guide prices for the individual tasks:

ParquetCHF 45–70per m²

  • On-site survey and advice
  • Binding quote, item by item
  • Waste and packaging from our work
  • Pressure and leak test with report (plumbing)

Frequently asked questions.

What we are asked most often before parquet is sanded.

What does parquet sanding cost?

We give the price after the site visit — in the fixed-price quote within 48 hours. It depends on the area, condition, number of sanding passes, joints and finish, and on whether individual strips need replacing. Small jobs have a minimum of 3 hours.

How often can parquet be sanded?

That is determined by the wear layer above the backing or, for solid parquet, the thickness of the wood. Under European standards, parquet has a wear layer of at least 2.5 mm; wood floors with a thinner top layer count as veneer floor coverings and allow little or no sanding. If the floor has been sanded before, less reserve is left. How much is left on your floor is something we check at the site visit.

Oil or lacquer — which is better?

Both have their place. Oiled floors look more natural and are re-oiled regularly; a lacquer seal forms a closed layer on the wood. Which finish suits depends on use, room and previous treatment. We advise you at the site visit and record the product and number of coats in the quote.

Can you replace individual damaged strips?

Yes. We replace damaged strips or boards before sanding, so that they are sanded and finished together with the rest of the floor. Whether matching wood is available is something we clarify at the site visit.

When is new parquet better than sanding?

When the wear layer is used up, water has got into the wood, elements are loose or hollow, or a veneer floor allows no sanding. We then price new flooring: removal CHF 25 per m², new parquet laid floating from CHF 45 or fully bonded from CHF 58 per m², skirting boards CHF 12 to 18 per running metre — labour, excluding VAT, materials separate. A worked example for 25 m² is in our guide ‘Sand or replace parquet?’.

Rented flat: when is a new seal due?

The joint lifespan table (paritätische Lebensdauertabelle; tenants’ association excerpt, 2021 edition) gives 10 years for the lacquer or surface treatment of parquet. Traffic paths and worn lacquer count as normal wear and tear. Keep a record for every flat of when the parquet was last sanded or sealed — it helps when the flat is handed back.
