For the work involved in renovating a bathroom in a Zurich flat, our guide prices range from around CHF 8'500 to CHF 19'000 per bathroom. Materials and sanitary fixtures are not included and are charged separately. The calculator does not show a turnkey total price. We clarify the exact scope — including any electrical work, VAT and, outside the Zurich agglomeration, travel — in your individual quote. The position of the risers, the standard of finish and any necessary adjustments to the structure or ventilation affect the amount of work.
What pushes the price up
Costs rise most when the shower, WC or washbasin moves to a new position — every relocation can require new pipe runs, depending on the building even through the ceiling into the flat below, which can trigger additional waterproofing and strip-out work. Older properties with unknown pipe routing also carry a risk: only after demolition does it become clear whether the risers and connections meet today's standards or need to be replaced. Large-format tiles, level-access showers with a sloped screed and high-end taps and fittings push the price up further, compared with a functional refresh within the existing layout.
Items often missing from cheap quotes
When a quote is low, it pays to take a second look: does it include proper disposal of the demolition waste, with a weighing slip? Is a leak test with a test report planned before the tiles are laid? Is site cleaning on handover included? These items rarely amount to more than a few hundred francs, but they tend to turn up as a surprise on later invoices if they were missing from the original quote.
What affects how long it takes
A full renovation usually takes us three to four weeks, from demolition to handover — provided the materials have been ordered in good time and there are no nasty surprises behind the walls. If a second bathroom or a kitchen is renovated at the same time, trades such as plumbing and electrical work can be combined, which saves time per bathroom.
How to get a reliable figure
A sound figure for your particular bathroom requires a site visit — the size, the position of the connections, the year the building was constructed and the standard of finish you want determine where you land within the range. Our guide-price calculator on the home page gives you a first estimate; the binding figure then appears in the fixed-price quote, item by item.
