Kitchen renovation Winterthur — strip-out, connections, installation, splashback and painting from one company

Three firm commitments.

All trades around the kitchen

Strip-out, plumbing, drywall, tiling, painting and flooring come from the same company. The electrical connections are made by a licensed electrical firm, coordinated by us.

Labour and materials separate

The quote lists our labour item by item. Kitchen units, appliances and materials are shown separately — so you can see exactly what you are paying for.

Schedule after the survey

We give you the binding date as soon as the layout, the connections and the kitchen delivery date are confirmed. It is set out in the contract.

A kitchen between two tenancies.

In Winterthur, the kitchen is usually part of refurbishing a vacant flat — together with painting, flooring and often the bathroom. Its date therefore depends on the handover date you have already promised the new tenants, and we plan backwards from there. The new kitchen has to be delivered before the old one comes out; then come strip-out, connections, fitting and splashback, followed by painting and flooring — one sequence instead of separate appointments. Not every kitchen needs replacing: if the carcasses and connections are in good condition, new fronts, a new worktop or individual appliances are often enough. We check this during the survey. The journey of about half an hour is a fixed item in the quote; for several buildings in Winterthur, we schedule the work together.

Building permit.

In Winterthur, the city's building permits office (Amt für Baubewilligungen, Pionierstrasse 7) is responsible. Under § 1 of the cantonal Building Procedures Ordinance (Bauverfahrensverordnung, BVV), water and electrical connections that are not visible from outside normally need no building permit in the building zone — nor does removing interior partition walls between living rooms. Changes of use and structural changes beyond that, for example to the facade or load-bearing walls, do require a permit (§ 309 PBG); we clarify your case before work starts and confirm the outcome in writing.

Frequently asked questions.

What we are asked most often before a kitchen renovation in Winterthur.

How much does a kitchen renovation in Winterthur cost?

For complete kitchen fitting — units, worktop, appliance connections — we charge CHF 900 to 1'800 in labour per kitchen. If the old kitchen has to come out first, strip-out adds CHF 500 to 1'500; a tiled splashback is CHF 62 to 85 per m². Kitchen units, appliances, materials and the electrical connections by the licensed electrical firm are extra. Travel from Zurich-Altstetten (about 30 minutes) is a fixed item in the quote; the fixed-price quote after the site visit is binding.

Does a kitchen renovation in Winterthur need a building application?

If the kitchen stays in the same place and the new connections are not visible from outside, normally not (§ 1 BVV). A building application (Baugesuch) is needed for changes of use and for work on the facade or load-bearing walls (§ 309 PBG) — for a kitchen, this can apply to a new opening in the outside wall for the extractor, for example. The city's building permits office makes the binding decision; we clarify this before work starts.

Can the kitchen be done alongside painting, flooring and the bathroom?

Yes, that is the normal case in Winterthur. All trades come from the same company and are planned by one site management team; the electrical connections are made by a licensed electrical firm, coordinated by us. We give you the binding handover date after the survey — if it is too tight, we tell you beforehand, not in the last week.

Does the whole kitchen have to come out at a change of tenant?

Not always. If the carcasses and connections are in good condition, fronts, worktop, splashback or individual appliances can be replaced — which saves strip-out, painting and time before the handover. During the survey we tell you honestly whether that is worthwhile or whether a replacement is the better choice.
